Some recipes that are good for your heart

Yogurt parfait
Makes 2 servings

 

When you think of a parfait, you may picture ice cream layered with dessert sauce or candy. Here's a healthier version, which includes yogurt and lots of fruit. Please note: This does not represent 1 serving of milk and is more than 1 serving of fruit

 

Ingredients

1 cup (250 mL) low-fat vanilla yogurt
½ cup (125 mL) unsweetened applesauce
1 cup (250 mL) fresh or frozen unsweetened strawberries, mashed
2 strawberries cut in half, for garnish (optional)

Directions

Alternate layers of yogurt, applesauce and strawberry mash in individual clear serving dishes.
Top with strawberry halves.

 


P.S. I Love You Salad - Salad Ingredients

 

1 bag (5 oz/142 g) mixed greens
1 orange, peeled and cut into segments
1 pink grapefruit, peeled and cut into segments
½ cup strawberry slices
½ cup raspberries
½ cup blueberries
¼ cup coarsely chopped toasted walnuts
½ cup dark chocolate shavings (optional)


Dressing Ingredients

 

½ cup pomegranate juice
2 tbsp canola oil
1 tsp honey

Rinse salad greens in water. Drain well. Place in a large salad bowl. Add fruit, nuts and toss lightly.

To make dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together pomegranate juice, canola oil and honey. Pour over salad.

 

Sprinkle dark chocolate shavings over top if desired. Serve immediately.

 

Makes 8 servings.
